Wing Residence

This 1853 Greek Revival estate, built by Frederick Wing, underwent a thoughtful renovation that honors its historic architecture while creating a brighter, more connected home for modern family life. The transformation centered on reopening the original center hall, bringing light—and the Garden District's iconic landscape—into the heart of the house. Bridging the center hall with the lush rear garden is a latticed bar with mirrored shelving that multiplies the Louisiana sunshine.

Rich mahogany and walnut, already present in the home's materiality, were extended throughout: custom built-ins that appear original to the library, a maritime-inspired powder room with lacquered paneling, and a cheerful children's bathroom in olive and sky blue. The client's personal collections—grandmother's floral paintings and treasured Chinese plateware—nestle naturally, while the living room's clean-lined furnishings provide a modern counterpoint to the home's historic architecture. The result is a house that honors its 170-year history while embracing the relaxed, colorful spirit of a young family who fill it with life, laughter, and the rhythms of daily life.
